The tragedy that left Haiti into an even more impoverished country has touched many people all over the world. Oxon Hill’s very own chapter of the nationwide organization, Linus Project, is also making an effort to bring aide to Haiti. This knitting club hopes to bring warmth with the blankets knitted for the Haitian children.

Oxon Hill’s Linus Project is sponsored by AP Calculus teacher, Mrs. O’Neal. The members of the knitting club meet in her room to make the blankets. A compilation of about 20 students contributed to the valiant effort to “warm up” Haiti. The members wanted to make use of the talents that they have to play a part in bringing hope for Haiti.

In their determined effort, the group chose to make fleece blankets. They were something that would help keep the children warm, but not too hot. “Making the blankets was not that hard, since I enjoy knitting,” Divina Maman said. “It also made me feel good inside… I got to help others with something I like to do in my spare time,” she added.

The Linus Project was able to finish about 20 blankets in only three days. This was all thanks to the contribution and efforts of the generous students and teachers at Oxon Hill High School. Harmonee Franklin stated that this experience makes her proud of herself. She was able to help needy people even though it was just a small part.

“The blankets are warm and comfy” stated Divina. This effort may be small to some, but to the ones who contributed, it means a lot. The organization wishes that their contribution will comfort and warm up Haiti.
