Oxon Hill High School was first introduced to Drama in 2007. Not the drama that occurs on a daily basis; Oxon Hill has always been full of drama itself. The other drama, Drama Club is looking to do special things this year. Ms. Hutchinson, Oxon Hill’s very own English 10 teacher introduced Drama Club to the school. As a talented actress, she loves to share what she’s passionate about.
Having a drama club was an idea that Ms. Hutchinson, Talaya Heard, current president, and Tiffani Headly, current vice-president, thought that the school could benefit from. The club debuted “Intelligent Conversation” in February 2008 at the Black History Program. Throughout the year, Drama Club planned on having more events; however, the budget didn’t allow it.
Oxon Hill will have its first theatre production in April. It will consist of three plays about walking away. One play is written by Oxon Hill’s very own ’09 Alumni Brandon Catlett and Ms. Hutchinson. The other two are plays from authors Stephanie Alison Walker and Gloria Powell.
Ms. Hutchinson provides a massive amount of knowledge and has inspired a lot of people within the walls of Oxon Hill; she has brought a taste of the theater to Oxon Hill.
Ms. Hutchinson also introduced Drama 1 during the 2008-2009 school year. The class consists of improvisation, Shakespeare, poetry, Greek mythology, musicals, and loads of performing.
