Registration Process Could Be Improved

Third quarter is almost at an end at Oxon Hill High and that marks the near end of a whole school year. This means that students are given their schedule sign-up sheets or should it be called students “sigh-n up” sheets.
As a junior here at Oxon Hill, I have gotten used to the routine of picking schedules for the upcoming school year. However, this process is way harder than it seems.
You are given a piece of paper with numerous amounts of choices to pick from. “Which classes will you be taking?” you ask yourself. And to top it all off you have the pressure from your parents to take “challenging” classes. The vast variety of classes make it mindboggling and stressful.
Being in the Science and Technology program doesn’t help lessen the stress. It adds more actually; having to take certain classes to fulfill your major requirements. Another problem is that sometimes the school is unsure of the outcome of the classes next year. For instance, the Engineering major students are unsure if the program still exists due to the fact that one class (Production systems/Electrical Systems) is missing. This is a setback on looking for alternatives, not to mention the time it takes to meet with your guidance counselor.
I personally believed that the schedule process should be at least a week. All the students need is time to think about the classes that they want and need to take to be successful. It was unfair that we are only given three days to fill the schedule sheet. I even heard from my fellow classmates that they too had hindrances in choosing their classes. I am glad that I am not the only one.
