Models Will Be Missed

New Generation Models, or NGM, are members of Oxon Hill High School’s modeling club.  This dynamic and trend setting organization, won the ‘Cat Walk Classic’, a prestigious annual event held locally in Prince George County Maryland, at the Comcast Center on the University of Maryland Campus, two years in succession.

As a former member of the team, I can honestly state, being an NGM is a lot tougher than it looks.  We learned new routines every day, wore the highest heels you can image, and were told not to lean, trip, or fall; while looking completely confident the entire time.  Spins and twirls were constant, and a look that could be read by anyone was mandatory.  All other extracurricular activities took a back seat because daily practice came before everything, except school work.   The event was more than just something to do after school; it took hard work, dedication, and passion to be a part of the NGM team.

Each year, when it is time for auditions, guys and girls, grades 9 through 12, stop by, hoping they can be a part of this fabulous adventure.  The individuals responsible for selecting possible talent, along with the team members, always stressed how dedicated potential models have to be if they wanted to be seriously considered for a spot on the team.  Team captains and the choreographer wanted perfection – no silly jokes, no breaks in concentration – just work, day in, and day out.

Despite the demanding schedule and the really tough practices, it was a family atmosphere.  We were comfortable in each other’s presence; spending time together during the week (and many weekends), watching the transformation from ugly duckling to a beautiful swan.

Unfortunately, it does not look as if there will be a team this year, but if there is, I really encourage anyone that’s interested in the glamorous life, and wants to be a part of the wonderful NGM family, to come out.  You will not regret it.
