Recently, the Oxon Hill Varsity Boys Basketball team defeated High Point 55-52, earning them the title of Prince George’s County 4A Champions. Prior to the game, the three team captains Ray Gatling, Denzel Mcguine, and Timon Johnson, discussed what exactly makes them champs. They all agreed that it has taken a lot of hard work and dedication to make it this far in the season. “It’s been a wonderful transformation,” says Senior Denzel Mcguine after reflecting on last year’s season when the team ended with a final record of 4-18.With playoffs around the corner Sophomore Timon Johnson admits to feeling a little bit of pressure, “This being my sophomore year, I haven’t yet experienced playoffs, but I’m confident in my team.”  As with every great team the Clippers have their strengths and weaknesses. “Sometimes we slack off on defense,” said Senior Ray Gatling. But the Clippers are able to make up for it with their uncanny ability to play well together which was clearly displayed at the game on Thursday, February 18. The OHHS offense did an excellent job of swinging the ball and capitalizing on High Point’s zone defense. Although the Clippers started off slow they were able to pull it together in a clutch performance proving their true Clipper Spirit with a strong win to clinch the regular season title. Playoffs begin Tuesday, March 2 as Oxon Hill hosts Laurel at 7pm.
