Wrestling

After his victory in the County Tournament, Eric Lynch moved on to the 2-day Regional Tournament at Chopticon High School in St. Mary’s County. The Regional Tournament was a competition of championship rounds and consolation rounds.

Lynch brought the Clipper season to a close facing a double-elimination, against opponents Christopher Redding of Huntington High School and Darryl Icenhower of Northpoint High School.

Coach Nigel Cross said, “Eric gave it all he had and I felt he did his best.” The coach also noted that he hopes all the wrestlers return next year and go even further. However, the Clippers’ wrestling team will be losing Coach Cross next year upon his acceptance to Bowie State and University of Maryland College Park.

In the off season, the wrestlers at Oxon Hill High join various clubs and participate in tournaments and matches all over the County. Coach Cross wishes for all the wrestlers to join the same teams this summer in preparation for the upcoming season.

Girls’ Basketball

The Lady Clippers played their final game on February, 26 against the Suitland Rams. This was the first round of playoffs for both the Lady Clippers and the Lady Rams. Oxon Hill started off the game strong with the lead until just before halftime.

Senior caption Shantelle Jiggets led the Clippers with 13 points, and junior Brianna Baker added nine. In the end Suitland defeated Oxon Hill 48 to 32. This was a hard loss for some of the team.  Junior Brianna Baker kept reiterating “We shouldn’t have lost.”
