County Championship
After winning the regular season championship the boys’ basketball team faced the Gwynn Park Hornets in the County Championship game at Dr. Henry A. Wise HS. People from across the county came out to see which team would be victorious in the infamous “Battle of the Black and Gold.” The game was truly a nail biter for both teams. Showing a great sense of teamwork, the Clippers came out strong and confident. With a tie score it was evident that the Clippers and Hornets were willing to do anything to win. But when it came down to the fourth quarter with 40.1 seconds on the clock the Clippers pulled through with a last second shot by number 23 Sedric Baker, winning the County Championship.
Playoff Roundup
After winning the county championship, the Clippers defeated the Laurel Spartans in the second round of the playoffs, which allowed them to advance to the third round against the High Point Eagles. This was the third game that the Clippers faced the Eagles and all of the previous were very close. This game, however, there was more pressure than usual with the title of State championship in sight. The Clippers were able to hold on to the very end maintaining a tie for the last 5:00 minutes of the fourth quarter. Taking it to over-time the Clippers came out strong “It’s not over fellas we been here before” said Coach Little to his team with just over a minute remaining in overtime. Although Oxon Hill Boys Varsity Basketball lost in overtime they still played a hard game and had a very successful season.
