Where’s the sports’ support?

We have a school, but where is the school spirit?

Oxon Hill High School is known for academics, like the Science and Technology program, which allows students to take rigorous courses to get them ready for college.

But what about sports?

From football, to basketball, to baseball, attending games is fun; unfortunately for some of the sports, the seasons affect the outcome of how many people arrive to support the team.

Junior Natalie Grimes states, “I love basketball season because the games are inside and I do not have to worry about being too cold, or too hot. Baseball and football are ok but I would only attend a football game if all of my friends went.”

Throughout the years, much of the student body of Oxon Hill have only supported basketball, or football. But soccer, baseball, softball, and track are just as important. Although these sports do get recognition, it’s rare to hear announcements made for students to attend other types of games that are free. Students should take the time out to visit these games more. The morning announcements should take the time out to recognize these teams, in their achievements, or in their upcoming games.

High school isn’t about just studying; it is also about experiences, communication, and bonding with your fellow students. So attend and support the teams.  It’s not just a game; it’s a memory.
