Teddy Pendergrass of Theodore, born on March 26, 1950, in South Carolina, passed away on January 13, 2010. He was an American R&B singer and songwriter. He used to be the lead singer of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. By the end of the decade he was a solo artist. In 1982, Teddy was involved in an accident. The brakes failed on his Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit, this cause the car to hit the guard rail, go into on coming traffic and hits not one but two trees. This incident left him paralyzed from the waist from.
He then started the Teddy Pendergrass Alliance, which helps those with spinal cord injuries. Even thought with his permanent injuries he still pushed on and sang. He was one of the greatest soul singers of his time. He knew how to get the ladies alright! I know he wasn’t in my time but, I still listen to him and his music. Some of his hits were “Love T.K.O.,” “Close the Door,” and “Turn off the Lights.” Teddy will always be remembered for his soothing voice and soulful lyrics.
